Even in Early Access, Hytale already has plenty to discover! And to gather all the key resources, you’ll need to travel across every zone of Orbis. From green meadows and chilly regions to deserts and volcanic isles, Hytale already offers a varied world. Over the course of release, more zones and a more advanced world-generation system are planned, so this list isn’t final. Still, we’ll take a closer look at the first four zones, what you can find there, and where to get specific resources.

Hytale Zone 1 Emerald Wilds: Biomes, Ores, and Mobs

Hytale Zone 1 Emerald Wilds with meadows, forests, and early-game resources

You first spawn in the emerald wilds. Here you’ll find broad, green meadows and dense forests where you can get familiar with Hytale’s basics. Resources are easy to come by and there are few threats. You should build a small starter base here, since this zone sits at the center of all the others and makes the best starting point for your adventures.

  • Biomes: You’ll find wide treeless plains as well as mixed forests with various tree species. There are also colorful autumn forests that are truly lovely. Scattered around are marble plateaus and steep mountains where ores can be found. Deep in the woods you’ll also discover swamps. The Azure area, with its blue trees, is a standout.

  • Wood types: You can find Oak, Beech, Birch, Maple, Ash, Azure, and Aspen here. It’s the zone with the most diverse trees.

  • Animals: Most friendly animals show up here, from pigs, chickens, and sheep to wild boars, foxes, turkeys, and rabbits. You can also find horses to ride. The Emerald Wilds are full of wildlife, and some animals can even be captured.

  • Enemies: Not every creature is friendly, though. Watch out for spiders, bears, snakes, and wolves. You’ll also face skeletons, swamp creatures, and orcs.

  • Ores: You’ll mostly find copper here, with some iron. Very rarely, there are veins of thorium.

Hytale Zone 2 Howling Sands: Desert, Biomes, Ores, and Enemies

Hytale Zone 2 Howling Sands with sand dunes, oases, and dangerous insects

Head south from the green forests and you’ll reach a vast desert, also split into several sub-biomes. Vegetation is sparse and monsters are much more aggressive, so be careful. The insects here in particular aren’t easy to overcome.

  • Biomes: Alongside wide sand deserts and dunes, you’ll find mesa canyons. There are savannas with trees and oases sprinkled throughout. The insect nests are especially tricky, leaving behind massive craters.

  • Wood types: You’ll actually find a few trees in the desert worth harvesting, including Palm, Gumboab, Dry, Bottletree, and Palo. The trees are sparse but spread across most sub-biomes.

  • Animals: Some animals call the desert home, which you can watch—or hunt for meat and leather. There are camels, armadillos, and lizards, as well as meerkats and antelopes.

  • Enemies: The desert is also home to nasty insects and other troublemakers. Keep an eye out for snakes, scorpions, and flying insects. The caves are overrun with bugs. Other land animals are unfriendly too, including hyenas and saber-toothed tigers.

  • Ores: You’ll find the common ores like iron here as well, but most importantly, large amounts of thorium underground.

Hytale Zone 3 Whisperfrost Frontiers: Ice Biomes, Ores, and Creatures

Hytale Zone 3 Whisperfrost Frontiers with taiga, tundra, and frozen lakes

If you’re drawn to the cold, the frosty Whisperfrost Frontiers in the north are the right choice. Here, taiga and tundra give way to deep, snow-covered forests. The frozen waters make crossings easier. Along the high mountains, you can find plenty of ores if that’s what you’re after.

  • Biomes: Hytale’s winter regions are diverse and wide-ranging. You’ll encounter broad, barren tundra and densely populated taiga forests. Massive mountains rise between them, perfect for every climber. There are also vast ice fields and caves. The ice seas, with their floes and slick surfaces, are particularly interesting.

  • Wood types: Currently you’ll find just three types here: Redwood, Fir, and Cedar.

  • Animals: The cold landscape doesn’t stop bison, moose, and ibex from settling here. Along the water you’ll also find polar bears and penguins.

  • Enemies: In addition to bears and polar bears, be especially wary of the Yeti in the mountains. You’ll also find Outlander camps that make use of the cold region.

  • Ores: In both the mountains and underground there’s plenty of gold, silver, and especially the blue cobalt.

Hytale Zone 4 Devastated Lands: Lava Biomes, Rare Ores, and Enemies

Hytale Zone 4 Devastated Lands with lava flows, ash fields, and a hidden jungle

Venture to the edge of the main island and you’ll see enormous lavafalls. That’s the Devastated Lands, a region full of destruction with hardly a speck of green—at least on the surface. The land is scarred by lava flows and blackened soil, with little real life in sight. But if you descend into the depths, you might discover a jungle.

  • Biomes: Most biomes in this zone blend into each other, but there’s still plenty of variety. From ash fields to basalt deltas to landscapes cut by lava. Sometimes you’ll even find forests. Underground, however, lies a lush jungle.

  • Wood types: Surprisingly, this lava-scarred zone offers quite a few wood types. You can find Burned, Ash, Fire, Petrified, Poison, Bamboo, Tropical, and Sallow. Some appear only in the deep caves, where a surprisingly lush green paradise awaits.

  • Animals: Not many animals call this zone home, but a few do exist, including undead pigs and cows and magma slugs.

  • Enemies: There’s no shortage of monsters and other creatures here, which makes this zone so punishing. Beware strong skeletons, wolves, and skeleton horses. Those nasty toads from below can be found right on the surface here. In the jungle, dinosaurs are waiting for you.

  • Ores: In the devastated landscapes you’ll find adamantite, which is better than cobalt and thorium.

Hytale Zones Summary: Finding Resources and Traveling Safely

Even if you set up a cozy base in the first zone, staying put isn’t an option in Hytale. Many resources—especially rare ores—are tied to other zones. So sooner or later you’ll need to head out on an expedition and face the other biomes. We recommend visiting these zones in the order listed so you’re properly geared.
