Hytale already offers a wide range of great materials you can use for building. From different types of wood to stone and unique resources, there’s a lot to discover. At the Builder’s Workbench, you can turn them into decorative blocks like slabs, stairs, fences, or even roofs—or craft them into furniture. Today, we’ll look at some of the coolest blocks you can use as building materials. We’re focusing on those you can find in the regular Exploration Mode, since many others are currently still tucked away in Creative Mode.
Chalk in Hytale: Elegant White and Blue Building Blocks

You’ll find chalk fairly quickly, as it lies in Zone 1 in the white marble mountains. Mine it with your pickaxe and use it at the Builder’s Workbench for a broad selection of beautiful white building blocks. You can choose between cobble variants and polished stone, and you can also craft bricks. Processing these again at the workbench unlocks additional options—for example, different fences and roofs. You can also craft elegant columns.
Marble is a great block as well, but the blue roofs made from chalk really stand out. If you prefer a subtler look, the white or gray roof tiles from marble might be a better fit.
Sandstone in Zone 2: Varied Desert Building Styles

Naturally, you’ll find sandstone in Zone 2—and plenty of it. There are three different variants you can mine and take with you: regular, red, and white sandstone. All three can be turned into many variants at the workbench. Depending on the base block, there are two roof styles and fences, and the three stones pair nicely color-wise. Red sandstone, which is a bit darker, works well with wood or can even serve as a replacement. Unfortunately, only regular sandstone has furniture at the moment—but it looks really sharp.
Shale in the Whisperfrost Frontier: Dark Blue Stone and Furniture

You’ll find shale in abundance in Zone 3, the Whisperfrost Frontier. It’s a blue stone that replaces much of the regular stone there. It adds plenty of variety to your builds and can be gathered easily in bulk. The deep blue offers a great contrast to most other blocks, and the range of roofs, fences, and other decorative variants is strong as well.
A great combination is shale with the chalk we mentioned earlier. The white with the blue makes a fantastic mix for builds that break away from the usual wood and cobblestone. You can also craft tables, chairs, and even cabinets from shale. Doors and trapdoors are available, too.
Redwood in the Taiga: Cozy Reds for Homes

Hytale features a wide variety of trees—and thus a range of different woods. Learn more in our separate article: (Hytale Wood Types & Saplings: Where to Find Every Tree) . We’re highlighting three of them here, starting with Redwood—a deep red, very homey wood you can find in Zone 3’s taiga.
An interesting contrast to the red wood is the blue roofs you can craft from it. They really stand out, yet still fit well. The furniture in this set also features blue accents. You’ll often find these pieces in structures in Zone 3, and they carry a distinct Viking vibe.
Frostwood: Cool Aesthetics with Ice Furniture

One of the coolest wood types in Hytale is Frostwood, which you can find in chests in Zone 3 or grow as a sapling at the Farmer’s Workbench. The frosty look of the logs becomes even more apparent when you check out the available furniture at the Builder’s Workbench. Shelves, tables, chairs, windows, and cabinets shaped from ice await you. This makes your home truly unique—if a bit chilly. In the end, you don’t actually have to sit on them.
Volcanic Stone in Zone 4: Dark Building Block with Decorative Details

Of course, dark materials shouldn’t be missing. Volcanic Stone is a great option. You’ll need to head to Zone 4 to mine it, as that’s the only place you can. It’s fairly hard, so it may take a while. But it’s worth it: you’ll find beautiful building blocks with great decorative details and various roofs, fences, and columns. You can also convert the cobble back into the regular variant with lava cracks, which looks very cool.
Bamboo and Tropical Wood in Zone 4: Perfect for Beach Houses and Jungle Huts

Also in Zone 4, but deep underground, you’ll find bamboo. It’s another wood type we want to highlight, as it’s perfect for a cozy beach house or a jungle hut in Zone 4. Both green and brown bamboo can be crafted into all kinds of exotic patterns, whether as decorative planks, fences, or furniture. As a great combination, we recommend Greenwood, which you can craft from Palo logs (Zone 2 desert) and Jungle logs (Zone 4 caves). Both woods share that tropical flair you won’t find anywhere else in Hytale.
Conclusion: Use Diverse Resources for Your Dream Home in Hytale
The more you explore, the cooler blocks you’ll find in Hytale. Unfortunately, not all of them can be processed at the Builder’s Workbench, but we hope we’ve put together a list of great materials worth the trip. And of course, Hytale is constantly evolving, meaning much more is coming in future updates. Just recently, Update 4 added a whopping 500 new blocks. Naturally, there are some we haven’t showcased—you’ll have to discover those yourself.
