Sons of the Forest’s island doesn’t just offer plenty of natural landmarks—it also hides countless secrets beneath the surface. Chief among them are hidden bunkers that are a major part of the story and reveal what’s really going on. If you’ve already cleared a few caves and maybe built a small base, it’s time to tackle the bunkers in the right order. You’ll find not only story clues but also rare items and tons of loot. In this guide, we’ll show you the optimal order, the keycards and items you need, and useful tips for each bunker.
Sons of the Forest bunkers: Gear and preparation before you head in
Don’t go in unprepared—tight corridors and tough mutants can end your run fast. Fights are cramped, so preparation matters.
Recommendations before your first bunker:
- Shovel: Required for most entrances.
- Light source: Flashlight (with batteries) or lighter.
- Healing & provisions: Medicine, food, and water for longer runs.
- Armor & weapons: At least Bone or Tech Armor, plus pistol/shotgun with ammo.
- Save point: Pitch a tent at the entrance for quick retries.

Below is the optimal order for all seven bunkers, including requirements, locations, and key loot.
1. Maintenance A: Location, access, and loot
You’ll find the first maintenance bunker by heading north along a river. About halfway, you’ll spot a yellow excavator and both broken and working golf carts. Next to a white golf cart, the entrance is buried—dig it out with the **shovel**.This bunker is small but offers early story clues and useful tools. There’s also a 3D printer.

- Maintenance Keycard
- Firefighter Axe
- Pistol Rail
- Laser Sight for the pistol
- Tuxedo as an outfit for you or Kelvin
2. Maintenance B: Flooded bunker with key bow
In the southwest of the map, near a hiking trail, you’ll again find a golf cart and crates—there’s the second entrance. Much of it is flooded, so there’s less to explore, but the loot is crucial. You’ll also find a **3D printer** with printer resin. What you’ll find here:
- Compound Bow
- Pistol Silencer
3. Maintenance C: Golf-course bunker with no enemies and a revolver

Dig in the middle to uncover the entrance. The bunker is unfinished, very small, and has one big perk: no enemies. Bring a light—there isn’t much loot, but there is a particularly valuable weapon.
What you’ll find here:
- Revolver
4. Food and Drink bunker: VIP Keycard, crossbow, and supplies

- Crossbow
- Dress for Virginia
- Shotgun Rail
- VIP Keycard
5. Entertainment bunker: Theater, bar, chainsaw, and Guest Keycard

- Chainsaw
- Guitar
- Tracksuit outfit
- Guest Keycard
- another 3D printer
6. Residential bunker: Katana, Golden Mask, and story progress
Save this bunker for late game: it’s packed with **mutants** and key story elements. It’s on the east side, right by the large lake. Enter with the **Guest Keycard**.Work through the levels one by one, grab high-value items, and reach the Security Wing. There you’ll unlock the door to the final bunker—opening the endgame.
What you’ll find here:
- Katana
- Pistol
- Golf Putter
- Golden Mask
- Pistol Flashlight
- Camouflage Outfit
- Space Suit
- Leather Suit
