In Palworld, not only the land (Palworld Mounts: Best Mounts for Early, Mid & Late Game) and the skies (Palworld Flying Mounts: Best Mounts for Early, Mid, and Late Game) are perfect for getting around with Pals, but also the many bodies of water in and around Palpagos Island. And for that, you’ll need the right Pals to take you out onto the open sea. There you can not only hunt for Pals, but also recover rare treasures!
Palworld swimming Pals in the early game: best water mounts, locations, and saddle levels

Surfent in the early game: fast water mount with no stamina drain
- Location: Bamboo Groves, Verdant Brook (freshwater, fishing)
- Saddle level: 10
- Speed: 900 - 1440
As early as level 10, you can unlock Surfent’s saddle, making it the island’s first true swimming Pal. It’s also surprisingly fast on the water, so it’s a worthy investment. One of its big advantages is that it doesn’t consume stamina while swimming, letting you swim indefinitely, which is super handy! Find a pond and cast a line to reel in a strong Surfent.
Chillet as a swim mount: speedy all-rounder with limited stamina
- Location: Frostbound Mountain, Astral Mountain (south)
- Saddle level: 13
- Speed: 1350 - 1890
Even if it looks the part, Chillet is actually not a Water-type Pal. That also means it’s not primarily designed for sea travel. Still, it can swim and is noticeably faster than any other mount you can get at this early stage. It’s a solid choice, but it does have limited stamina, which it burns while swimming. So be careful not to drown!
Breed Elphidran Aqua: efficient Water-type Pal for the early game
- Location: Breed Elphidran + Surfent
- Saddle level: 28
- Speed: 1134 - 1440
After that, there isn’t a new useful saddle until level 28. But by then you can work on breeding an Elphidran Aqua, which makes a great interim option to move faster and more efficiently. Since it’s Water-type, it doesn’t consume stamina (unlike Chillet). And it’s a touch quicker than Surfent, which it’s bred from. It’s also unique in that you can’t find it in the wild—you have to hatch it yourself.
Palworld mid game: best swimming Pals and water mounts for fishing

Whalaska in the mid game: speed up fishing with its Partner Skill
- Location: Isle of the Glacial Core, Frozen Coral Hill (fishing)
- Saddle level: 35
- Speed: 780 - 880
Three swimmers unlock in quick succession, starting with Whalaska. It’s not necessarily the fastest Pal—in fact, it’s slower than the three picks above. But if you want to fish, it might be worth it. Its Partner Skill boosts the catch gauge, speeding up the fishing minigame. Learn more in our fishing guide (Palworld Fishing Guide: Rods, Bait, Spots, and Loot) .
Ghangler: fast Water/Shadow Pal for travel and nighttime fishing
- Location: Phantom Isle, Sakurajima
- Saddle level: 37
- Speed: 1200 - 1350
Two levels later you can unlock Ghangler’s saddle, a faster swimming Pal for your team. Like Whalaska, Ghangler is ideal if you plan to fish. It makes Pals bite faster, but only at night, since Ghangler is both Water and Shadow type. It may not be the ultimate swim mount, but its looks alone make it worth catching.
Jormuntide: fastest mid-game swim Pal with no stamina drain
- Location: Alpha Pal in two dungeons (Bamboo Grove, Scars of War)
- Saddle level: 39
- Speed: 1080 - 1800
If you’re not focused on fishing, save your tech points for Jormuntide’s saddle at level 39. This Pal is significantly faster than the others and will whisk you across the sea in no time. It also doesn’t consume stamina while swimming. The only catch is its availability—you can only encounter it as an Alpha Pal, which is naturally more challenging.
Late game in Palworld: fastest swimmers and best water mounts

Ghangler Ignis: more efficient nighttime fishing in the late game
- Location: Fishing in Feybreak and Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3
- Saddle level: 61
- Speed: 1200 - 1350
After Jormuntide there’s another long gap until you unlock three more swim saddles deep in the late game. In terms of speed, Ghangler Ignis is not a direct upgrade over its pure Water variant and is still equally fast. Its nighttime fishing Partner Skill remains the same, making Pals bite faster. Its added Fire type is the real upgrade if, for example, you need Kindling as an extra work suitability.
Whalaska Ignis: ideal water mount for late-game fishing
- Location: Fishing in Feybreak and Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3
- Saddle level: 62
- Speed: 650 - 750
Just like Ghangler Ignis, Whalaska Ignis is the fiery counterpart to its earlier version. Its speed and Partner Skill for faster fishing remain unchanged. You’ll find it in the same places as Ghangler Ignis. For late-game fishing, it’s worth bringing if you’re hunting rare treasures or Pals.
Neptilius: fastest legendary swim Pal in the late game
- Location: Alpha Pal on the Isle of the Glacial Core
- Saddle level: 63
- Speed: 1800 - 2000
The best swimming Pal by far is Neptilius! You’ll only be able to catch this legendary Pal toward the end of your journey, but it’s absolutely worth it. It’s fast, nimble, and thanks to its Partner Skill it can get even faster and jump high. Neptilius also holds its own in combat, not least thanks to its passive skills “Legendary” and “Pond Lord.” It’s one of the best Water-type Pals in the entire game. You simply can’t pass it up.
Conclusion: Swim faster and fish better with water mounts in Palworld
Sea travel becomes especially important later on when you want to fish and search for sunken treasure. Several Water-type Pals have your back. For fishing, Ghangler and Whalaska are great picks thanks to their supportive skills. For speed, go with Jormuntide, and later Neptilius.
