Especially between levels 20 and 40, Palworld opens up with a huge selection of new regions and Pals to choose from. That can make it tough to pick the best creatures, whether for combat, your base, or as mounts. If you want to learn about the best starter Pals, read our guide: (Palworld: The 10 Best Pals for a Perfect Start) . Today we pick up right there and look at how to build your team and your base for the mid-game. We’ll consider how easy Pals are to catch and how to maintain a good overall balance.

Palworld mid-game: the best Pals at a glance

Mossanda in the mid-game: Base worker and strong combat Pal

  • Location: Verdant Brook

Let’s start with a few Pals that are especially practical for your base. Mossanda should be at the top of that list—this green panda is seriously capable. Its base work is hard to beat: it has Lumbering Lv. 2, Handiwork Lv. 2, Planting Lv. 2, plus Transporting Lv. 3. It’s also comparatively less hungry than many others. That makes it a well-rounded powerhouse for your base. Alternatively, you can ride it and use its Grenade Launcher in combat, which you can unlock at level 24.

Digtoise in the mid-game: Mining Pal for ore and materials

  • Location: Twilight Dunes, Desiccated Desert (north)

Mining becomes increasingly important in the mid-game, which is why you should absolutely pick up Digtoise. You can easily find it in the desert, and with Mining Lv. 3 it outperforms most nearby Pals. That lets you gather ore and other materials in no time. Equip its Headband, which unlocks at level 19. This enables a spinning move that makes harvesting even faster.

Penking in the mid-game: All-rounder for base tasks

  • Location: Wildlife Sanctuary No. 1, Verdant Brook, and Astral Mountains (fishing)

If you’re after one of the very best base Pals, Penking is an excellent choice. It can take on many jobs, all at Lv. 2. With Cooling, Handiwork, Watering, Mining, and Transporting, Penking is a true jack-of-all-trades for your base. It is, however, fairly hungry. In combat, its Partner Skill lets you get more items from Fire-type Pals.

Incineram in the mid-game: Kindling, transport, and handiwork

  • Location: Mount Obsidian (southern shore)

Once you’re around level 30, head toward Mount Obsidian and keep an eye out for Incineram. Its broad set of skills makes it a great addition to your mid-game base. Kindling is especially useful if you run furnaces. It can also handle Mining, Transporting, and general Handiwork. Plus, it’s nocturnal, so it can keep working through the night.

Warsect as a powerful combat Pal in the Palworld mid-game

Warsect in the mid-game: Top combat Pal into the endgame

  • Location: Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2

You’ll likely be able to catch Warsect toward the end of the mid-game, and that should absolutely be a focus. Warsect is one of the strongest Pals in the entire game and will reliably carry you well into the endgame. Its Partner Skill boosts defense in combat and reduces damage from Fire attacks—a bonus you don’t want to miss.

Kitsun in the mid-game: Mount and powerful Fire fighter

  • Location: Frostbound Mountain

The blue fox Kitsun is often underrated, especially in combat. But it can punch well above its weight and fits perfectly into a Palworld mid-game team. Its mount skill makes you immune to environmental effects like heat and cold, which is a big advantage. In terms of combat power, Kitsun absolutely holds its own—a good Kitsun will help in many situations and wreathe foes in flames.

Quivern in the mid-game: Boost Dragon attacks and fight flexibly

  • Location: Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2, Sakurajima

Quivern leans more toward the late mid-game, but you can catch it earlier and become unstoppable. While its work skills make it useful at base, it truly shines in combat. It can learn a diverse moveset across multiple types, making it broadly practical. You unlock its Saddle at level 36, and when you ride it, it boosts Dragon-type attacks.

Flying mounts like Ragnahawk and Quivern for Palworld’s mid-game

Pyrin in the mid-game: Fast mount with Fire bonus

  • Location: Mount Obsidian (east side)

One of the very best mid-game mounts is Pyrin, whose Saddle you get at level 31. Its ability converts all attacks to Fire while you’re riding. That’s especially helpful against Ice or Grass. It’s also one of the fastest Pals you can find at this stage. Pyrin is on the rarer side, but we strongly recommend keeping an eye out for it.

Ragnahawk in the mid-game: Best flying mount and base helper

  • Location: Mount Obsidian (west side)

If you prefer to take to the skies, unlock Ragnahawk’s Saddle at Technology level 37. It’s one of the very best aerial mounts and will remain useful well into the endgame. Like Pyrin, it converts all mounted attacks to Fire. It’s also great at the base, with Kindling and Transporting Lv. 3. Ragnahawk is a true all-rounder.

Galeclaw in the mid-game: Best glider Pal with firearm use

  • Location: Bamboo Groves, Crescent Moon Shore

Finally, let’s look at the best Pal for gliding—you can’t go wrong with Galeclaw. It’s relatively easy to find, and you can unlock its Gloves as early as level 23 with just one point. They let you glide faster and also use weapons while gliding—no other Pal in this category allows that. If you’re heading out to explore, Galeclaw should always be at your side.

Conclusion: Optimize your mid-game team and base

The mid-game opens Palworld up in a big way, and you’ll encounter many new Pals. Hopefully this guide helped you decide which ones to catch and how to use them. Some excel at base tasks, while others are better for combat. You can also breed them to create top-tier Pals with strong passive skills and squeeze out even more performance.
