In Palworld, you can hunt for over 150 different monsters and put them to work in combat, labor, or breeding. Early on, though, you can only find and use certain Pals, and you’ll want to decide which ones to prioritize. The right companions make early tasks easier and support you with useful abilities. In the end, weigh your own playstyle and pick Pals that fit you. Do you want to fight? Build a base? Or focus on exploration? The right partners make all the difference!

Cattiva: Top transport and gathering Pal for early game
Cattiva is arguably Palworld’s unofficial mascot and one of the first monsters you’ll meet. You’ll find the pink, catlike Pal all over the starting area, so it’s worth catching a few for different roles. It can handle Gathering, Mining, and general Handiwork. Its real strength is Transporting, since its Partner Skill gives you +50 carry weight. It’s not great in a fight, but it’s an excellent worker.
Foxparks: Fire Pal for early combat and crafting
Catch Foxparks, the red fox wreathed in flames, for a different set of strengths. As a worker it provides Kindling, which you’ll need to fuel your first crafting stations with fire. Use Foxparks to stoke campfires and furnaces. It also shines in your first battles: when equipped, it can turn into a living flamethrower. Plus, it can keep you warm in cold areas.

Lifmunk: Gardening, healing potions, and strong base support
Grab this small green Pal for your first gardening efforts. Lifmunk appears throughout the starting area, so it’s easy to find. Thanks to its versatile work skills, it’s perfect for your first base, especially for planting and harvesting fields. In production, it specializes in Medicine Production (healing potions), so breeding Lifmunks is worthwhile. In combat, it can summon a pistol and perch on your head.
Daedream: Nocturnal fighter with strong turret support
Daedream is a nocturnal Pal you should definitely catch. Stay out until nightfall and comb the starting area to spot it. Daedream is a particularly strong early fighter, with solid stats and attacks. Even without diving into melee, it can run beside you and provide covering fire with a floating turret. Its attacks also lean into close-quarters combat, making early fights even easier.

Chillet: Early mount with Ice and Dragon damage
Chillet is a blue, water-adapted ferret. With its Ice/Dragon typing, it’s unique and a fantastic Pal for your starter team. It’s very useful in combat, especially while mounted. It’s one of the first Pals you can ride on land. Unlock its saddle at Technology Level 13 and ride it across Palpagos Island. While riding, your attacks gain additional Dragon damage.
Dinossom: AoE damage and Grass power for your team
If you want more punch in combat, Dinossom is one of your best early partners. It’s relatively easy to find and fits perfectly into a starter lineup. Its attacks deal heavy damage and also hit enemies in a small area. Later, you can ride Dinossom too, but its saddle only unlocks at Technology Level 19. While mounted, your Grass-type attacks get stronger. On the job, it can Plant and Lumber, both at Level 2.

Vixy: Spheres, gold, and arrows for your ranch
You’ll also find Vixy in the starting area, but only during the day and a bit rarer than other Pals. Get one early and put it on your ranch, because it can dig up Pal Spheres for you. It can also find gold and arrows, making it a very handy little worker. It’s not great in combat, but it’s excellent at digging up spheres. And those matter, because we recommend catching as many Pals as possible. 12 of each Pal grant you an XP bonus.
Tanzee: Versatile all-rounder for gathering and combat
Like Cattiva, Tanzee is one of the best all-rounders early in Palworld. The green monkey spawns frequently, day and night, and brings a suite of useful skills. It can handle Gathering, Lumbering, Handiwork, Planting, and Transporting. That covers almost everything your first base needs. In combat, Tanzee isn’t bad either, since it can summon a machine gun.

Tombat: Dark, nocturnal worker focused on ore and transport
Tombat is a nocturnal bat of the Dark type and a great upgrade for your team. It’s a bit stronger than most Pals in its region, making it great for combat. It’s also valuable at your base with Level 2 in Gathering, Mining, and Transporting. That lets you find rare ores and tackle tougher tasks. Tombat works at night, too. Thanks to its ultrasonic ability, it can ping and reveal nearby Pals on command.
Eikthyrdeer: Fast mount with double jump and Lumbering Lv. 2
The majestic Eikthyrdeer is not the easiest to find and catch, but it’s worth tracking down this purple deer. At Technology Level 12, you unlock its saddle and can ride it across the island. It’s one of the best mounts, thanks to a double jump. With its ram attack and Lumbering Lv. 2, you can turn forests into kindling in seconds. In combat, that charge is also great for weakening Pals for capture.
Conclusion: The best Pals for a perfect start in Palworld
In Palworld, you should catch a wide variety of Pals and use them diversely. Cattiva, Lifmunk, and Tanzee help you build your base, craft items, and work your fields. Meanwhile, Daedream, Foxparks, and Tombat are excellent fighters. For overland travel, we recommend Eikthyrdeer or Chillet.
