In Palworld, you don’t just traverse the map on foot—you can also rely on Pals for support. Early on, you’ll likely use Pals as land mounts by unlocking Saddles in the Technology tab and crafting them. Focus only on Pal gear that’s truly worth it. Not every mount is equally good; Pals differ in terms of their speed as well as their locations and capture methods. That’s why it’s important to know the best mounts for each stage and avoid wasting time or Technology Points on saddles you won’t use.

Palworld mounts in the early game: Locations, saddles, and speed

Palworld early-game mounts overview: Direhowl, Chillet, and Univolt

Direhowl: Locations, saddle level, and speed

  • Location: Forgotten Island, Ice Wind Island, Bamboo Groves (East Coast), Sea Breeze Archipelago, Eastern Wild Island
  • Saddle level: 9
  • Speed: 800 - 1050

Direhowl is arguably the best mount for your first hours in Palworld. You unlock its saddle very early, at level 9. The Pal itself is also easy to find thanks to its frequent spawns, making it simple to capture. On top of that, it’s one of the fastest Pals you can find in the starter areas. If you had to pick a single early mount, we recommend Direhowl.

Chillet: Locations, saddle level, and combat benefits

  • Location: Frostbound Mountain, Astral Mountain (South Coast)
  • Saddle level: 13
  • Speed: 750 - 1050

Thanks to its cute appearance, Chillet is one of the best early-game mounts. It’s easy to find if you head north from the spawn into the mountainous regions. It’s just as fast as Direhowl and also converts your attacks into Dragon-type while riding. That can give you solid advantages in battle, especially against Dark-type enemies. You can further boost the element’s strength via Pal Condensation.

Univolt: Electric mount with strong top speed and base utility

  • Location: Bamboo Groves (Northwest)
  • Saddle level: 14
  • Speed: 720 - 1100

Univolt is a great upgrade over Direhowl, though it’s much rarer. If you plan to lean into Electric attacks, it’s well worth the search. Its partner skill lets you ride it and converts all your attacks into Electric-type while mounted. It also has a slightly higher top speed than Direhowl. Back at your base, Univolt can be used to generate power, which is a strong bonus.

Palworld mid-game mounts: The best upgrades

Palworld mid-game mounts overview: Eikthyrdeer Terra, Fenglope, and Pyrin

Eikthyrdeer Terra: Double jump and wood farming

  • Location: Wildlife Sanctuary No. 1
  • Saddle level: 25
  • Speed: 700 - 900

Eikthyrdeer can’t quite match the earlier Pals in raw speed, but that doesn’t make it worse overall. Its riding ability grants a double jump, letting you reach places that were previously inaccessible, which greatly improves mobility. Even more practical is its ability to ram and gather wood. If you’re short on lumber, use Eikthyrdeer for the job.

Fenglope: Very fast with double jump and farming potential

  • Location: Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3, Mount Obsidian (South Coast)
  • Saddle level: 26
  • Speed: 750 - 1050

It’s often even better to invest your Technology Points into Fenglope’s saddle. Unlocked just one level later, it’s usually the stronger pick. Fenglope can also perform a double jump, but is generally much faster. It excels at running down small, weak Pals to defeat them, letting you farm drops from minor Pals more easily without having to dismount and fight.

Pyrin: Top speed and powerful Fire attacks

  • Location: Mount Obsidian (East side)
  • Saddle level: 31
  • Speed: 850 - 1300

Even quicker is Pyrin—one of the best mid-game mounts for raw speed. You can find it and its Noct variant on Mount Obsidian, so it’s not hard to locate. While riding, Pyrin converts your attacks into Fire-type, which is especially useful against Plant and Ice. As with other elements, you can further amplify this through Pal Condensation.

Palworld late-game mounts: Fastest options and rare finds

Palworld late-game mounts overview: Necromus, Paladius, Azurmane, and Silvegis

Necromus and Paladius: Highest speed and jump options

  • Location: Dungeon in the north of the Desiccated Desert
  • Saddle level: 49
  • Speed: 1300 - 1900 (Paladius 800 - 1800)

Necromus and Paladius are two sides of the same coin and rank among the fastest Pals in the entire game. Necromus is faster but can only perform a double jump. Paladius is slower but offers a unique triple jump. Which one you choose is up to you—both saddles unlock at the same level, and both Pals can be found in the same place.

Azurmane: Dash and excellent mobility in the endgame

  • Location: Feybreak Island
  • Saddle level: 56
  • Speed: 900 - 1260

Azurmane is a great alternative because it’s much easier to find than Necromus and Paladius. You’ll encounter this mount all over Feybreak. It’s one of the fastest Pals in the game, though still slower than the two above. While it lacks a double jump, Azurmane can perform a dash. Don’t underestimate it—it’s great for maneuvering and serves as a valuable dodge option in combat.

Silvegis: Shielding, offensive options, and safe traversal

  • Location: Dungeon on Feybreak Island (alpha boss)
  • Saddle level: 58
  • Speed: 700 - 1050

Silvegis isn’t the fastest mount compared to other late-game options, but that doesn’t make it bad. It particularly shines in combat. While mounted, its Aegis Charge creates a shield around you to block incoming damage. At the same time, the charge can be used offensively. This makes Silvegis a fantastic tank and a reliable Pal for tough situations. Speed isn’t the only factor that defines a great mount.

Conclusion: How to traverse Palpagos Island quickly

Riding a Pal across Palpagos Island is one of the best ways to get around. From start to finish, you’ll discover new mounts and unlock new saddles. Choosing can be tough—with over 70 rideable Pals, you’re spoiled for choice. Focus on the mounts you like most and those that grant special abilities. Whether it’s a double jump, elemental attack types, or ramming attacks, the skills are varied and unique.
