The Minecraft world is incredibly lively and especially exciting to explore due to its natural diversity. This also includes a whole bunch of animals that you can find in different biomes. While we explored pandas, dolphins, and foxes in the first part of this article series, today we’re taking a closer look at the adorable rabbits, the large camels, and the mischievous goats! If you want to complete your collection of animals for achievements or simply for your farm, then you should keep an eye out for them.
Rabbits: Cute Pets with Valuable Items

Rabbits are animals that many players have long wished for. With the 1.8 update, they were finally added to the game and can be found in various biomes! They love to hop around, but are very skittish and will run away from both players and monsters.
You can find rabbits in 6 different colors:
- Golden: Desert
- White: Snow biomes
- Black: Taiga & Forests
- Black-White: Snow biomes
- Brown: Taiga & Forests
- Brown-spotted: Taiga & Forests
You can, of course, bring rabbits back to your base and tame them there. Use a lead to keep them in a pen. You can breed them by feeding two rabbits carrots, golden carrots, or dandelions.
Rabbits also have some unique drops that you can obtain:
They drop rabbit hide, which you can craft into leather. You can also trade it with a villager for emeralds. Unfortunately, you can’t (currently) craft bundles from it.
Raw rabbit is a good food source and can be made into rabbit stew with mushrooms, a potato, and a carrot.
Rabbit’s foot is the rarest drop and can be used to brew a Potion of Leaping.
Lastly, there are two fun Easter eggs associated with Minecraft’s rabbits. One is that you can rename a rabbit “Toast” with a name tag, and it will receive a unique fur color. This secret was added in honor of a Reddit user. The second and more well-known Easter egg is the Killer Rabbit, which you can spawn only in Java and only through commands. It is extremely aggressive and a nod to the movie “Monty Python and the Holy Grail." It should be approached with caution, as it can kill you in two hits!
Camels: The Rulers of the Desert

Camels are relatively new to Minecraft and don’t appear very often. You can find them in desert villages, and now occasionally in the regular desert. Like in real life, they are very large but quite slow. They like to sit around and enjoy the warm weather!
As the newest mount, camels come with a variety of new features. You can lead them with a lead and breed them with cacti to get more camels. Unlike horses, all camels have the same stats. If you give them a saddle, you can ride them. The good news is that you don’t even have to tame them first—they obey you immediately!
When riding a camel, you can enjoy these features:
You can ride not only alone but also with another player.
They can walk through 3-block deep water, unlike horses which can only go through 2 blocks. This makes them surprisingly good for exploration.
While camels can’t jump high, they can walk over 1.5-block high obstacles like fences or walls.
They also have a dash, which you can charge up with the spacebar. Watch your XP bar and release at the right moment to jump 9 to 10 blocks. This allows you to easily cross small rivers or ravines.
Thanks to their size, camels are also great for not getting attacked by monsters. Even Endermen can’t attack you! However, watch out for jumping spiders and skeletons’ arrows.
Goats: Sly Mountain Dwellers

Goats are also relatively new to Minecraft, but they’re full of surprises! You can find them in the three mountain regions: frozen peaks, snowy slopes, and jagged peaks. They often stay in smaller groups and love to leap through the air, reaching a height of 10 blocks and a distance of 5 blocks per jump. They like to find the highest point in their biome.
You can breed goats normally with wheat. About two percent of all spawned or bred goats are screaming goats. These have different sounds and are generally more aggressive. Goats will try to push you away with their horns if you stand still long enough.
Besides milk, goats are especially known for their horns, which are the reason you hear a horn sound during a Pillager raid. There are eight different variants of these goat horns, four normal (Feel, Seek, Sing, Ponder) and four from screaming goats (Yearn, Dream, Call, Admire). They all make different sounds! Goats can spawn with none, one, or two horns and will drop as many as they have left. Both horns are always the same.
To find all eight goat horn variants, you can build a simple farm:
- Gather enough normal and screaming goats in a pen.
- Lure the goats with armor stands, but make sure they run into a block first. You can use wood logs, packed ice, stone, or some ores for this.
- Use one of these blocks over a piston that is raised with a pressure plate. When the goat runs towards the armor stand and steps on the plate, it will hit the block and drop its horn.
- You can use Allays to automatically collect the horns. (Minecraft Allay Guide: Locations, Tasks, and More)
Conclusion
Minecraft’s animal diversity has grown tremendously over the years, and players may occasionally lose track. However, each animal species has its unique traits and introduces new game mechanics. So you should definitely go on a quest to explore this diverse fauna! You can also rent your own Minecraft server with us and embark on a quest to find some of these animals together. Find all the rabbit variants, ride together on the back of a camel, or let screaming goats push you off a mountain peak.
