Over the years, many new biomes have been added to Minecraft. By now, you can find over 50 different landscapes and areas that offer varied terrain, vegetation, fauna, and many other aspects. Finding a suitable location for your projects is not that easy! In the end, you can always decide for yourself where exactly you want to build something. But a little guidance on what we consider to be the best biomes in Minecraft certainly doesn’t hurt. A beautiful environment is always part of the deal, and your builds should blend in perfectly. We not only present you with the biomes but also with some building ideas that you can implement there. Minecraft is full of surprises, and sometimes all it takes is the perfect location!
Plains - Ideal for Farming

We start classically with the normal Plains, a quite popular area for those who want to get familiar with the basics. There’s not much in the way, except gentle hills and some waterholes. There are also plenty of animals, and you’re sure to set up a little farm. Trees can also be found scattered across the plains. The only annoying thing might be the grass, but with a bucket of water, it can be easily removed.
Suitable for:
- Farm
- Various (automatic) farms
- Huge wheat fields with a windmill
Mushroom Fields - A Peaceful Oasis

A rather unusual biome that exists only as an island. This can make access difficult, but the Mushroom Fields have many cool properties. The best part is that no hostile monsters spawn here, not even in caves. Only phantoms can appear. Additionally, if you terraform the island (Ultimate Guide: Mastering Terraforming in Minecraft) , the grass is bright green! You should bring some saplings and grass to the island to start your adventure.
Suitable for:
- Large home base
- Custom giant mushrooms
- Volcanic island
Jungle - Perfect for Treehouses

The Jungle is now one of the older biomes in Minecraft and is still very popular among players. Thanks to its dense vegetation and tall trees, it’s perfect for building a treehouse base! You will never run out of wood here. The only downside might be the difficulty in moving around, and it’s not suitable for large farms.
Suitable for:
- Treehouses
- Temples
- Expanding a lush cave
Giant Tree Taiga - For Rustic Projects

In Minecraft, there are actually two different Giant Tree Taiga biomes. The Pine Taiga has trees with foliage only at the top. In contrast, the trees in the Spruce Taiga have fir-like foliage surrounding the entire trunk. The ground is covered with coarse dirt and podzol, and you can find foxes and rabbits here. Thanks to the large trees, you are very protected.
Suitable for:
- Lumberjack hut
- Hidden village
- Abandoned castle ruin
Dark Forest - Magical Building Spot

Also a perfect forest is the Dark Oak Forest, which stands out with its very dense foliage, thick tree trunks, and mushrooms. Here you can hide many small buildings and set up a secret base. But the forest also has something magical about it, making it well-suited for a fantasy setting. You can also search for a woodland mansion and use it as your base.
Suitable for:
- Witch’s house
- An old, self-built tree (Minecraft Tree Design: Create Your Own Perfect World)
- Mushroom house
Meadow - Relaxing Mountain Landscape

One of the most beautiful biomes in Minecraft is the Meadow, which can be found along mountain ranges and always gives you a fantastic view of the surrounding land. If you love visiting the Alps and enjoy such regions, you’ll feel right at home here! The bluish grass and colorful flowers also make the biome unique and give it a rather calm and relaxing atmosphere.
Suitable for:
- Alpine hut
- Flower garden
- Farm for donkeys, horses, or mules
Cherry Blossom Grove - Exotic Building Delight

A long-awaited biome that you can now finally find in the vanilla game! Cherry Blossoms are probably the most beautiful trees in the entire game, and the area itself should give you plenty of project ideas for that reason alone. Naturally, Asian-inspired structures fit best here, but you can also go in a fantasy direction. The pink blossoms go well with light wood like birch.
Suitable for:
- Park with cherry blossoms
- Japanese temple
- Terrace fields
Snowy Slopes - Winter Paradise

If you’re looking for a snowy biome, then the Snowy Slopes are perfect for you. Between spruces, you’ll find dense snow and gentle slopes that are much easier to build on than high peaks. But, of course, you can also combine both well if the biomes are adjacent. In survival mode, you should watch out for the powder snow, which can quickly become a trap!
Suitable for:
- Ski resort
- Hiking trails
- Fairy-tale castle
Deep Ocean - Underwater Dreams

You don’t have to limit yourself to land biomes but can also build underwater. We’ve already made a complete guide on this if you want to learn more (Ultimate Guide to Underwater Building in Minecraft: Using Sponges and Conduits) . With a bit of preparation, you can create wonderful structures here that look even more impressive in the water. Whether it’s a deep-sea station, a self-made coral reef, or an underwater city like Rapture from BioShock, there are plenty of ideas here!
Suitable for:
- Large sea creature (kraken, jellyfish, rays, etc.)
- Sunken ship
- Research base
Desert - Oriental Architecture

We’ve somewhat neglected warm biomes on this list, but there are certainly many great things to build here. The classic Desert is perfect for exploring oriental or Egyptian architecture. For example, you can remodel a desert village and ride your camel through the dunes. With a mix of sandstone and wood, you can create great houses that integrate well into the desert.
Suitable for:
- Pyramids
- Oasis
- Custom-built palms
