Hytale Update 3: Flamethrower, Sickle, and Animal Taming | All New Features and Tips

Hytale Update 3: Flamethrower, Sickle, and Animal Taming | All New Features and Tips

After just under a month, Hytale has already received its third major update. It’s clear the developers are hard at work, making the most of existing features and actively listening to community feedback with many long-requested changes. From grass spreading to animal taming, Update 3 brings plenty of surprises. We’ll take a closer look at the biggest additions and where to find them in-game.

Hytale animal taming and capturing: Guide

Hytale: Taming animals and luring them with favorite food

Animal husbandry is an area in Hytale that could definitely use more updates. But this is a solid first step toward keeping livestock: you can now lure many different creatures with their favorite food and make them friendly. When you try to tame them, they’ll show you which food they want via a speech bubble above their head. We still can’t breed animals yet, but that will likely follow soon!

Benefits of tamed animals:

  • can be lured with their favorite food
  • are easier to pen in and won’t run away
  • can be petted
  • will occasionally greet you as you pass by
  • produce goods like eggs, milk, or wool (they’ll do so even untamed, but it’s easier this way)

Hytale map: Set and share custom markers

The in-game map also received an update. Not only were several icons refreshed, you can now add custom icons, label them with names, and assign a color. This lets you mark interesting locations directly and tell them apart more easily. You can also share points with other players on a server or delete them later.

Hytale sickle: Harvest fields faster

Hytale sickle for harvesting large fields quickly

To speed up your harvests, Hytale now includes the right tool for the job. The Farmer’s Workbench offers a recipe for a sickle you can sweep in an arc, letting you harvest multiple crops at once. That’s handy and saves a lot of time on large fields, since pulling each vegetable one by one takes ages. For now there’s only a basic sickle, but upgrades with higher durability will likely follow!

Hytale flamethrower in Creative mode: Fire mechanics tested

In Creative mode, you’ll now find a flamethrower—an impressive weapon that can also cause devastating damage. Flames spread extremely quickly, and once a forest area catches fire, it’s hard to stop. No surprise the flamethrower is currently limited to Creative.

A cool detail: fire turns normal logs into charred logs. Later, you won’t need to head to Zone 4 to find them. The blackened wood is great for building. We’ll see when the flamethrower makes it into Survival.

Hytale grass growth: Dirt gets overgrown again

Hytale grass growth automatically overgrows dirt

A very common request was for dirt to be overgrown by grass. Previously you could craft grass blocks from dirt and fibers, but it was pretty tedious. From now on, dirt will regrow with grass—just like you know from Minecraft. It’s much faster, and you’ll no longer have ugly dirt patches that you need to fill or replace manually. It seems the system doesn’t work with every grass type yet, but those bugs will surely be ironed out.

Hytale ropes: Better climbing and movement

Rope climbing has been overhauled and greatly expanded. It could now be a real alternative to stairs or ladders, freeing up space in your base. You can stop mid-rope, jump off, climb faster, and even rotate a full 360 degrees! This gives you much more freedom of movement and makes ropes a great tool in your arsenal—perfect for crossing steep chasms in caves, for example.

Hytale character customization and saving presets

You’ll also find some changes in the main menu. As in the previous update, there are new customization options for your character, including new hairstyles, shoes, faces, and beards. You can now save five presets to load later. So if you play solo, you can quickly switch to a different skin for multiplayer. They might expand the save slots to 10 or more.

Hytale Update 3 highlights and quality-of-life

Those were just the biggest changes—there are also lots of smaller tweaks you’ll notice while playing. You can read the full patch notes on the official site. To wrap up, here are some improvements we think are especially relevant and that many players will appreciate.

  • Bows and crossbows can now draw arrows from your backpack. That frees up a slot in your main inventory.
  • Summoning undead has been improved: they no longer hurt you, and there are rangers as well.
  • Better inventory management with keybinds for storing and sorting.
  • Several workbench adjustments. For example, the chicken coop was reduced from Tier 5 to Tier 3. Crafting times were adjusted too.
  • Dough is now easier to craft without wasting too much water. Craft cups that don’t deplete water sources.
  • A few new stone blocks (limestone) and updated textures for ores, especially cobalt.
  • Adjustments to enemy spawns across various zones and locations.
  • New furnace model for both tiers.
  • General performance improvements and other system tweaks.
