In Hytale, you’re not just focused on your own goals—you can also use certain parts of the game as motivation. That includes collecting Memories for the Forgotten Temple, which earns you some great rewards. Along the way, you’ll see every creature in the game at least once and be pushed to explore every corner of the map. It’s also a great way to check whether you’ve missed anything—Hytale is full of surprises! Today we’ll take a closer look at Memories: how to unlock them, how to fill your collection, and what rewards you get.
Unlock Hytale memories in the Forgotten Temple

When you create a new world in Hytale, you can’t collect Memories yet. First, you need to head to the Forgotten Temple and step through the portal to reach the “Heart of Orbis”. You can either defeat the golem or simply ignore it and go through the portal. The Heart is the statue in the center of the world—make sure to interact with it. From then on, you’ll be able to collect Memories in the overworld.
You collect Memories by being near a creature. That includes sheep or rabbits, but also monsters like skeletons or the golem guarding the portal. Essentially, anything living gets recorded. You’ll see a small notification letting you know you’ve collected that Memory. They’re stored in your inventory, in the second tab under the crafting recipes and above the backpack. You can carry up to 48 Memories; after that, you’ll need to return to the statue to turn them in.

In total (as of Update 3), there are 241 Memories to collect. However, not all of them are currently in the game—right now you can collect 219 Memories. These span a wide range of animals, monsters, and other creatures. So why should you hunt them down?

Hytale memories: tips for every species

Collecting all 219 currently available Memories is no easy task. The first few hours are straightforward, but things get much tougher later on. For example, you can find 10 Memories right in the Forgotten Temple world by tracking down the creatures there. So grab your first reward right away.
The more you explore, the more Memories you’ll uncover. Some creatures are not only well hidden but also extremely rare. Here are tips for each of the 18 species to help you find them all:
- Abyssal: Aquatic creatures like eels found in the ocean depths.
- Avian: Birds from all biomes, sometimes hard to reach. Check high mountains or wait for them to land.
- Critter: Various small creatures, including mice, snakes, and frogs. Relatively easy to find.
- Elemental: Includes the Forgotten Temple golems and some smaller elemental mobs. A few are not yet available.
- Feran: Fox-like beings you can encounter in the desert.
- Freshwater: Dive underwater to find fish. Check coastal areas of every biome for aquatic life, including jellyfish.
- Goblin: Often spawn in caves, frequently behind you. Also found in Goblin Lairs in Zone 1.
- Kweebec: The cute inhabitants of Orbis, found in their villages in Zone 1.
- Livestock: One of the largest groups, mainly farm animals and other common mobs. Remember that baby animals count, too.
- Mythic: Very rare monsters—currently Yeti and Ice Dragons in Zone 3, and Emberwulf and Wraith in Zone 4.
- Outlander: Easy to encounter if you attack Outlander camps in Zone 3.
- Predator: All regular animals that attack you, including bears and wolves.
- Reptile: A mix of reptiles—some from the desert, others from the jungle caverns in Zone 4. This also includes nasty toads with their long tongues.
- Scarak: The gross insects from Zone 2, though some are currently still bugged.
- Trork: Large trolls you can find in their camps in Zone 1.
- Undead: The largest monster group, mainly skeletons of all kinds. Each zone has several variants (Burnt, Sandswept, Incandescent, Frost), which is why there are so many Memories here.
- Voidspawn: All monsters that spawn at night and drop Essence of Void.
- Voidtaken: Currently only one mob, which is not available in Exploration Mode yet.
Conclusion: Collect Hytale memories and unlock features
Memories in Hytale are a fantastic incentive to explore every last corner of Orbis. With 219 available creatures right now, you’ll have to travel far and wide to discover them all.
