The world of Hytale is filled with magic—and you can tap into it yourself by unlocking both the Alchemist’s Workbench and the Arcanist’s Workbench. These stations give you your first building blocks for using magical elements in Hytale, with more likely to arrive in future updates. Even now, both workbenches are worth a closer look, as they hide several items for the later game, including the all-important portals. There’s more to discover, too, and that’s exactly what we’ll dive into today.
Hytale Alchemist’s Workbench: Brewing potions and upgrades

You can craft the Alchemist’s Workbench at the regular Workbench, but it’s one of the last features you can currently unlock. You’ll mainly need gold, which isn’t exactly easy to find.
You’ll need:
- 20x Stone
- 5x Gold Bars
- 10x Poison Sacs
- 10x Bone Fragments
Most features of this workbench are available out of the box, but you can unlock additional items with a Tier 2 upgrade.
Tier 2 upgrade:
- 20x Silver Bars
- 10x Gold Bars
- 10x Boom Powder
- 50x Bone Fragments
The Alchemist’s Workbench currently offers three categories. They’re still a bit bare-bones, but already include some exciting features. Primarily, you’ll find potions, but there are also bombs that could play a decisive role in combat. Let’s break it down.

Brewing healing potions and buffs in Hytale
If you don’t want to rely solely on food for energy, potions are a great alternative. There are Small Potions of Healing, Attack Energy, and Stamina. To craft them, smelt sand in a furnace into empty glass bottles. You’ll also need special plants from the Blood, Azure, and Storm categories. There’s also an Antidote to quickly cleanse poison.
At Tier 2, you can brew larger variants of each potion. They’re a bit pricier, as you’ll also need to craft the small versions first. You can obtain seeds for the magical plants, but they are extremely rare.
Transformation potions: Turn into animals (no benefits)
The second tab is all about fun potions that let you transform into an animal of your choice. You can choose between a dog, pigeon, frog, and mouse. To unlock this, you must first restore 50 Memories in the Forgotten Temple. Learn more in our post Hytale Erinnerungen finden: Fundorte, Tipps und Belohnungen. The transformation lasts one minute and doesn’t provide any notable gameplay advantages.
Crafting bombs: Cherry Bombs for combat
Lastly, you can craft Cherry Bombs at the Alchemist’s Workbench. These small, throwable explosives let you attack enemies from a distance. They’re not especially powerful, but they can deal damage and keep foes at bay. They’re made from wild berries, fibers, and Boom Powder.
Arcanist’s Workbench: Portals, Ancient Gateway, and magic

The Arcanist’s Workbench is likely the most expensive station to craft right now. It’s definitely intended for advanced players, as it unlocks powerful tools for your Hytale world.
You’ll need:
- 10x Thorium Bars
- 30x Linen
- 20x Essence of the Void
There’s no upgrade at the moment, but you can only unlock some features after collecting enough Memories. Either way, you’ll want to travel, because many functions of the Arcanist’s Workbench really shine when you explore. More content will likely be added in the future, but it’s already worth crafting these items.

Crafting portals for fast travel
The most important items here are likely the portals you can craft at the Arcanist’s Workbench. They let you travel around your world. Gather Azure Logs and Kelp to craft them. At first, you can place up to 5 portals; with more Memories, you can have up to 10.
Place at least two portals in your world to link them. You can interact with a portal and choose where it should teleport to. For example, place one at your base, another in the desert, and another in the ice biome—then pick your destination. Portals are incredibly practical for fast travel from A to B.
Ancient Gateway: Use fragments to visit other worlds
There’s another portal type at this bench: the Ancient Gateway. Combined with a fragment, it lets you travel to other worlds. These are examples of Hytale’s upcoming world generation and can be entered for a limited time. You can only unlock them after collecting 100 Memories.
Currently, there are three fragments:
- Orbis – The Dread Wade
- Orbis – Dragonspire Weald
- Orbis – Windrider Valley
These temporary worlds are perfect for gathering additional resources without traveling far. They may also hide secrets and rare items. Each new world is freshly generated, though it’s always just a small slice.
Note: The ancient portals are still a bit buggy, so they may not always work as intended. You can still try them out.
Crafting magical staffs and totems
The second section of the Arcanist’s Workbench is great for players who enjoy combat. Here, you can craft two staffs and two totems to support you in battle.
The staffs are themed around ice and fire and use the corresponding essence as a kind of ammunition. That can be expensive, but it’s also very powerful. Like melee weapons, they have multiple attack patterns. For example, the Flame Crystal Staff can spew fire. You must have the essences in your inventory to attack.
You can also craft two totems—one for healing and one for slow. Once crafted, you can use them infinitely, but they have a cooldown. You throw them on the ground, where they take effect. Their names make their functions clear. They can be a big help in combat, but they’re not exactly cheap to make.
Conclusion: Master magic, portals, and potions in Hytale
Hytale offers many features you’ll unlock over time. Both the Alchemist’s and Arcanist’s Workbenches are geared toward advanced players, as they often require rare items. The hunt is worth it, though—both stations are perfect for survival, whether you’re using portals for fast travel, alternative healing, or new weapon types.
You can also use these workbenches by renting one of our Hytale servers. Team up with friends and be ready whenever a new update drops.
