Enshrouded Update 7 Wake of the Water: Complete Guide to Water Mechanics, Veilwater Basin, and the Greatsword

The Enshrouded devs already surprised players this year with two major updates, but Wake of the Water raises the bar again. Update 7 brings a host of exciting additions you can sink hours into. The focus is water and everything that comes with it. From a new biome to water mechanics and even fishing, it’s all here. There are also extensive adjustments to the combat system, including the greatsword and overall rebalancing. There’s more in the patch notes, so we’re taking a closer look for you.

Enshrouded Update 7 Water Mechanics and Building

Enshrouded Update 7 water mechanics: swimming, diving, and building

Right out of the gate, the new water takes center stage, giving the update its name. It unlocks several new possibilities that make Enshrouded noticeably deeper. Water isn’t just simulated realistically; you can also use it for swimming and diving. On top of that, you can control it yourself and put it to work in your base.

The ability to swim is available to every player right from the start. That lets you discover many new places in both old and new areas, so it’s worth revisiting them. While you can’t fight underwater, you can move nimbly or dive for treasures. There’s even a new item, the sieve, which lets you sift the ground for rare resources. From pearls to gold, you’ll uncover real riches.

The building system now supports water, too. You can control it with a water pump or a spring to create your own rivers, aqueducts, or even pools. Mechanics like dams and water wheels are also in and functional. Underwater bases are possible thanks to new barriers.

Fishing in Enshrouded Update 7 Tips and Rewards

Lakes, rivers, and ponds also mean more fauna has moved into Embervale. Not just in the new biome, but everywhere you’ll find new watering holes that invite you to dive and fish.

Craft your first fishing rod and pick a good spot. The minigame is easy to learn and a fun pastime. With bait you can improve your odds. A new survivor can help you upgrade your fishing skills and unlock new fishing gear. Your catches are especially useful for the new recipes that have been added.

Veilwater Basin New Biome in Enshrouded Update 7

The biggest part of the update is the new area that spans a large portion of the map. Veilwater Basin is a high-level zone you’ll likely only enter toward the end of the current game. Most enemies are above level 35, but once you’re ready, the relevant missions will lead you into this new section of the map.

Veilwater Basin leans into a more tropical theme. There’s dense vegetation everywhere and lots of water. There’s something new to discover around every corner, and it’ll take several hours to explore all the new locations. The thick jungle is perfect for expeditions and hidden treasures. Many of the new features primarily center on this biome.

Temples, ruins, dungeons, and Drak enemies in Veilwater Basin

The new temples, ruins, and dungeons are especially exciting, waiting behind trees or beneath the waves. In true Indiana Jones fashion, you’ll face puzzles, traps, and, above all, enemies. A new enemy type has been added, the Drak. These reptiles can attack you both on land and in the water. Beware, because you can’t attack while you’re in the water.

A new area also brings new materials, and Veilwater Basin is perfect for that. You can gather many new things to decorate your base. There are also loads of new furniture and decorations, as well as plenty of new plants to beautify your home. You’ll also find new animals, including adorable capybaras.

Greatsword and Combat System Changes in Update 7

As promised, the combat system has been reworked. The highlight is the new weapon: the greatsword. It’s a powerful two-handed weapon that’s slow but hits very hard. Even new players can find greatswords as loot early in the game.

Alongside the new area and weapon, the level cap has been raised to 45 for your character and 50 for weapons. That means more flexibility, new skills, and better ways to optimize your playstyle. There are stronger weapons and gear, and thanks to the new loot distribution in chests and on enemies, they’re easier to find. All weapons also received a pass so their descriptions properly match their attributes.

There are new skills for almost every situation, but mages benefit in particular. Healing is now much better, especially in multiplayer. You’ll also find abilities for moving underwater, new resistances, and whirlwind attacks.

Quality of Life Improvements and Patch Notes Highlights

Finally, lots of older systems were adjusted to make life easier. Enshrouded is still in Early Access, but preparations for a full release are underway. Many of these quality-of-life improvements were highly requested by players.

  • You can label signs and even edit them.
  • The watering can is now a very practical tool for gardening. It shows soil properties and can limit plant growth.
  • The entire stamina system has been adjusted, with new values for food and buffs.
  • Weapon durability has been increased across the board.
  • Loot from late-game chests has been completely overhauled to yield better weapons.
  • You can now remap your key bindings.
  • Graphical improvements, especially to water mechanics and lighting.
