In Enshrouded, you can choose from three core combat styles. While melee and ranged are straightforward, magic requires a very different approach. Getting used to it can be tough at first, but the payoff is one of the strongest builds in the entire game! Magic lets you leverage elemental power, keep your distance, and deal devastating damage. Mages can also support their team, which is especially important in multiplayer. Magic in Enshrouded is extremely versatile and gives you multiple ways to overcome the monsters of Embervale.
Enshrouded Mage Overview: Getting Started, Playstyle, and Elements
As a Mage, things are especially challenging at the very beginning, since you’re comparatively weak and can’t tap into the class’s full potential yet. As the game progresses, however, you’ll grow much stronger and can fully leverage every aspect of a Mage build.
As a Mage, you can use these aspects in combat:
- You have access to both wands and staves as your weapons.
- Spells are the ammo for your staves.
- The skill tree lets you branch in four directions, which you can also mix.
- Your armor should prioritize mana and be augmented with gems.
- Power up your character further with rings.
- Rescue the Alchemist as soon as possible to unlock your full potential.
Enshrouded Weapons Guide: Wands and Staves

Let’s start with the weapons available to Mages. You can choose between wands and staves to keep your gameplay varied. Both have their place and shine in different situations.
In the early hours, you’ll primarily rely on wands. You can craft one from two bones right away to get at least some offensive power. We recommend searching for chests to find better wands quickly. Wands are quick and easy to use. They consume your mana and deal damage based on their stats, often including elemental damage. They also feature Overcharge, letting you land critical hits.
Staves, on the other hand, work a bit differently. Think of them as empty conduits that you infuse with elemental power. They’re far more flexible, letting you tailor your damage to the situation rather than relying solely on base stats. However, spells are crucial—without them, staves won’t reach their full potential!
Both wands and staves can be upgraded with gems, making them even more effective. There’s a wide selection—choose what fits your attack style. Like other weapons, you can enchant them up to five times to unlock better perks.
Enshrouded Spells: Elements, Recipes, and Eternal Spells

Spells are the ammo for your staves. You can find them in the world or craft them at the Alchemist, which is why you should rescue him and place him at your base as soon as you can. After that, decide which spells are worth using and which ones you can craft with your current materials.
Spells are grouped by element:
- Fire
- Ice
- Lightning
- Poison
- Healing
- Shroud
Each spell also has requirements and stats:
- Minimum level to use
- Damage that scales with your staff
- Mana cost
- Speed
- Consumable or Eternal
Sooner or later, you should work toward unlocking the Eternal versions for each element. These are significantly better because they deal more damage and don’t get consumed. The trade-off is higher mana costs and more complex crafting recipes.
Enshrouded Mage Skills: Talent Tree, Builds, and Synergies

Like the other combat styles, you can branch into four directions—and you can combine skills freely. The magic branch is especially diverse and gives you incredible late-game power, letting you defeat even the toughest enemies. Early on it’s rough, as you’ll have little mana, few spells, and only weak wands. Focus your first ~15 levels on improving exactly those aspects.
For the start, we recommend first investing in the “Battlemage” branch. This boosts Intelligence, which in turn increases your mana. Unlock the skills up to “Wand Mastery” so you can fire two projectiles at once. “Blink” is also essential, letting you teleport when you dodge.
Next, move into the “Wizard” section, which contains most of your damage amplification tools. This is also where elemental damage comes into play, with later sub-branches focusing on Ice, Fire, or Lightning.
For multiplayer, the “Healing”-focused skills are great support picks. They’re also handy in single-player when things get dicey.
Lastly, there’s the “Rogue” branch, which is more niche. It pairs well with Assassin and focuses on reflecting damage and outsmarting enemies. Still, any skills that increase Intelligence are generally worth grabbing.
Enshrouded Mage Gear: Mana Regeneration and Armor

Your gear needs to be on point. For Mages, each region offers different armor sets tuned to your level. You can craft many of them at the Alchemist, but rare sets must be found in their respective areas. We recommend swapping your armor by biome to get the most out of it. Mage sets often grant bonus mana and regeneration.
There are other key equipment slots to consider. For Mages, the Diadem of Lightning is excellent and can be obtained via a quest. You should also pick up the Ice or Fire gloves.
Two more item types round out your build:
- Shields: You can use both regular and magical shields. These pair especially well with wand-focused play. Magical shields from the Alchemist provide mana regeneration.
- Rings: You can wear two rings that grant additional buffs. Mana rings are usually best for Mages, but experiment with others as well. Some heal you, while others boost your elemental damage.
Conclusion: Best Enshrouded Mage Build and Tips
Mages are the strongest class in Enshrouded as you get into the later stages of the game. Use both wands and staves with the right spells to maximize your elemental damage. With solid mana regeneration from your gear, Eternal spells, and efficient skills, you’ll melt even very tough enemies in no time.
