In Enshrouded, you don’t just explore a vast hand-crafted world—you also bring your finds home and cultivate them. A safe, good-looking base is the heart of the game: it’s where you rest, house your NPCs, and grow your own plants. Across the map you’ll find familiar and exotic plants whose seeds you should take home. There you can plant and breed them as you like. Why it’s worth it and how to set up your own little farm—that’s exactly what this guide covers!
Getting started with Enshrouded farming: Grow crops and find the Farmer

To start growing crops, you first need to find the Farmer. She’s one of the many survivors hiding in Enshrouded who need your help. You’ll find her in the Ancient Vault and can bring her back to your base. There she offers additional quests around farming and animal husbandry, but you can also start tending your own fields right away.
At the Farmer, your first step should be to craft a Seedbed so you can turn found plants into seeds. For that you’ll need Farm Soil, which you can craft from Dirt and Bone Dust. While Dirt can be gathered directly, you’ll need to make Bone Dust on a Grindstone from Bones. You get Bones from dead animals, and you can craft the Grindstone yourself once you’ve mined Stone.
1. Crafting seeds at the Seedbed: Resources and requirements

While exploring Embervale, you’ll come across all kinds of plants. You should always pick them up so you can grow them later. At the Seedbed, you can convert them into seeds. Depending on the plant, different conditions apply.
You’ll always need the plant itself, but often additional components:
- Water: Draw it from a well you can build after you’ve unlocked the Carpenter. Alternatively, use a watering can or portable pumps.
- Sand: Can be mined in the desert (Kindlewastes).
- Nitrate: Crafted in the Laboratory from Sand, Shroud Sand, Wood Acid, and Salt. To do so, you must first find the Alchemist. For Wood Acid, you’ll need the Charcoal Kiln.
- Fossilized Bone Dust: Made from fossilized bones gathered in the desert and processed at the Grindstone.
- Farm Soil: Crafted from Dirt and Bone Dust. Alternatively, it can be harvested from other beds.
- Fertilized Farm Soil: Upgrade Farm Soil with fertilizer like Nitrate and Water to optimize growing conditions.
Some plants and seeds are only available later due to their requirements. Early on, stick to plants that need few materials or can even be turned into seeds from the plant alone. For starters we recommend nettles, chamomile, corn, or beets. Ordinary bushes are also very important for materials. Depending on the plant, you’ll get 5 to 20 seeds.
2. Sowing seeds: Soil types and building fields

Once you’ve crafted seeds at the Seedbed, you can sow them. You can use various ground types: Sand, Dirt, Garden Soil, Farm Soil, or Fertilized Farm Soil. Soil can also vary by region. Farm Soil and Fertilized Farm Soil are highly recommended, as most plants grow better on them.
Open the Build menu and scroll to Terrain. There you can select and place the ground you want. We’ve already explained more about the building system in another article: (Enshrouded: Build a Starter House with Workbench and Flame Altar) . You can expand your fields however you like and decorate them with other materials. Your creativity is the only limit here.
You can place seeds either manually, spacing them precisely, or use the snapping tool, which you can toggle at the bottom right. This lets you plant much faster and finish a field in no time.
3. Harvesting and seed multiplication: Growth and drops
After the growth time, harvest your mature plants. You’ll always get the corresponding produce, plus a good number of new seeds. You can plant those again and multiply them alongside the Seedbed. That makes farming a form of self-sufficiency, since you’ll be able to keep your harvests going indefinitely.
Enshrouded Update 7 Wake of the Water: Soils and the watering can

The new “Wake of the Water” update adds several improvements to plant cultivation. Alongside many new plant types, there are mechanics that make your beds more efficient:
- With the watering can equipped, you can now view information about a plant, including growth status, preferred soil, and water needs.
- Pause growth at a certain stage with the watering can to use plants decoratively.
- New and improved growth animations.
- Underwater seeds such as rice, which must be submerged to grow.
Plant types in Enshrouded: Uses and recipes

Finally, here’s what plants you can grow. Thanks to its biomes, Enshrouded’s world is highly diverse. You’ll find and later cultivate many plant types, each with different uses important to other parts of the game.
- Fruit: Plants like strawberries, wildberries, yucca, or pumpkins. Primarily used for cooking and buffs.
- Vegetables: Cook all kinds of tasty dishes with tomatoes, peppers, or ginger.
- Mushrooms: Important for cooking and a great snack for mages.
- Grains: Often a base ingredient for food. For example, turn wheat into flour. There’s also corn and rice for more recipes.
- Herbs: An herb garden is key for healing foods. From chamomile and rooibos to saffron, sage, and nettles, there are plenty of great options.
- Trees: Set up a tree farm to gather wood, leaves, and resin.
- Wild plants: A catch-all for the remaining saplings. Grow flax, aloe vera, hazelnuts, or coconuts needed for various recipes.
Conclusion: Farming tips and Update 7 highlights
Once you’ve built a secure base in Enshrouded, you should start working your own fields. Many resources are needed for food and healing items, and you can also mass-produce other materials like wood or sticks. With Update 7, plenty of exciting improvements arrived, including new watering can features that are especially useful for decorations.
