Unlike most survival titles, food in Enshrouded isn’t directly required for your survival. You don’t get hungry, so you don’t have to worry about filling your stomach. Food in Enshrouded plays a different role: support. It grants enhanced status effects that help you in combat or on other adventures. So it’s still important, even if it isn’t vital to staying alive. The many different buffs also make Enshrouded’s food selection quite complex, with dozens of ingredients and recipes to choose from. Today we’ll take a closer look at the entire system for you.

You can gather or cook food in many different ways. From simple berries in the wild, to butchering animals, all the way to complex recipes with multiple ingredients, you have plenty of options. In general, you can eat up to three meals at once, which are then shown in your character menu. With the “Dessert Stomach” skill in the Survival tree, you can even unlock a fourth slot if you want to eat more.

There are also different preparation methods depending on what you want to eat. We always recommend not eating ingredients raw, but processing them first. Most can simply be grilled at the cooking station, while others must be prepared with the Farmer’s Oven or Seafood Oven. Not everything can be processed, though. Each meal has two attributes you need to watch: the effect and the duration. Both are equally important and need to be balanced.

You can, of course, live on meat in Enshrouded—plenty of animals drop it. Whether it’s wolves, goats, or chickens, you’ll find a wide variety of hearty meats. Meat lasts a very long time—most buffs remain for around 50 minutes.

Enshrouded fish: recipes for underwater breathing and stamina

Fish were added with Update 7 and can be obtained through fishing. A number of fish species and matching recipes came with it. They cover a wide range of effects and foods to choose from. Fish are especially good for stamina and breathing underwater while diving.

Enshrouded fruits for fast in-combat regeneration

Enshrouded also offers a large selection of fruits to fill up on, and they’re great for farming on your homestead. Generally, fruits regenerate your health, which can be especially important in combat. Some heal you slowly but for a long time, while others give you a quick boost that runs out after just a few seconds.

Enshrouded vegetables: buffs for rangers and assassins

If you play as an archer or with daggers, you should definitely eat vegetables. They increase your ranged damage and dagger damage, making them perfect for anyone who wants to play as an assassin. Vegetables are also perfect for your farm and can be grown sustainably.

Enshrouded herbs for strong mana regeneration

As a mage, you should grow herbs, since they’re essential for regenerating your mana. Many herbs can be picked and eaten as-is without processing first, making them much more flexible than most other foods. Depending on your progress and the biome, herbs you find last longer and restore more mana. Some herbs can also be used for potions.

Enshrouded mushrooms for more magic damage and mana

You’ll find mushrooms all over Embervale, and they’re best suited for mages. They won’t regenerate your mana, but they do grant more damage and overall more mana. Grill the mushrooms you find or process them into other recipes to get the most out of them.

The downside is that their duration is very short, so they’re better for a quick, active boost. Just like in real life, sweets are energy-dense but not necessarily filling.
